ask your guest about these tax reform ideas
1. Tax private equity and hedge fund managers and their income at the highest possible rate; raise the highest rate.
2. Social Security: do not pay out to people earning over $500,000/yr after retirement.
(Perhaps let them consider their payments tax deductable contributions to help the entire country.)
3. Lower the payroll taxes on 95% of workers. To pay for this realignment of funds, raise the payroll tax on workers earning over, say $250,000. For the past 8 years the rich have been given tax breaks and regulatory breaks that allowed them to amass millions. Now it's time for the middle class, whose increased productivity has not been rewarded, to get some breaks.
4. Income tax: increase tax exponentially and on a sliding scale for people earning over $500,000 and raise the rates so that rates go up commensurate with total income. Include stock options and benefits when calculating the total income.

PLEASE!!!!!??? Our nation needs his leadership in this vital area which is at a critical juncture.
Hillary Clinton is a hawk and should not be Sec/State.
She should stay in the Senate and work on universal health care. Bill Richardson should be Sec/State. He
is a fair negociator and could work with all sides on a question. He is not an ideologue. He has proven his capabilities as a diplomat and conciliator.
If you're following the cabinet selection process, check out http://www.fantasycabinet.us
It allows you to browse departments and nominate then appoint people to your own fantasy cabinet.
As appointees are officially selected and more and more people create cabinets, your choices will be factored into a scoring system. The prize: fame and fortune.

I would like to propose a new Cabinet position:
The Secretary of Peace
For this position I would nominate the Dalai Lama
This idea was first proposed by Dennis Kucinich at a conference at Town Hall (I believe in 2003 or 2004)
The Dalai Lama talked with different panels that were brought together by Tibet House. On the Media Panel were Amy Goodman, Kucinich and Al Sharpton.
Kucinich said that if he became President he would create a Cabinet position for Peace. I think this is a great idea, and that the Dalai Lama would be a perfect candidate for the job.

McCain is a TERRIBLE choice for Veteran's Affairs.
Although he is a veteran and former POW, his voting record on behalf of veteran's issues is dismal. It's so bad that the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) recently rated him only 20% in favor of veteran's issues. And just last month the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a "D" on their grading scale that looked at 10 key military/veteran's issues.
A much better choice would be Colin Powell and this is an appointment that he might be more open to accepting.

One truly hostile post from Sunset Park above, and an awful lot of mainstream thinking.
All those who supported the invasion of Iraq need to be "off the table" (and certainly not in the new cabinet). When the American people (and people throughout the world) who marched against the invasion on Feb 15, 2003 knew that Iraq wasn't a threat, and these folks claim to have been hoodwinked by Bush (and Powell must have had a gun to his head that made him lie to the UN?), these are clearly not people who should have any power in this government. Too many of them have colluded in the past 8 years of destruction.

How about adding a Secretary of Culture, in recognition of the idea that, rather than merely accessorizing American Life, Culture changes and produces it (e.g., "the pen is mightier than the sword.") A great candidate to recruit: Joan Rosenbaum, currently Director of the Jewish Museum in NYC.
