Just how do propositions make it onto the ballot? Kareem Crayton, associate professor of law and political science at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, explains the often complicated process.
Ever since Wednesday I've been hearing nonstop talk about the passage of Prop 8 in CA. The blame seems to go right to the black community every time I hear it mentioned. CNN posted an exit poll that suggests 70% of black voters voted "yes" for this measure. I've heard talk on NPR, television and all over the web concerning this issue.
While I understand there is a some disappointment in this CNN poll, I just can't take any more of white people and the media suggesting "blacks are more homophobic than whites" Much less trying to pass speculation as the truth. Read the whole poll and you will see no real breakdown of these supposed black votes. Notice "undecided" was not even listed as a choice.
On Wednesday black people in this country woke to something they never have before- unlimited possibilities. In the meantime CNN released a poll that the media and gay people jumped on, that is a blanket attack on black voters. Listen, we are not a scapegoat for your political mistakes. I'm sick of it, if you want homophobia keep blaming us for bigotry.
If you read the CNN Exit poll and do the math, it's statistically impossible for black people to have had any effect on this proposition either way. White people brought this on, they paid to take rights away from THEIR constitution. Don't blame us.
