I still haven't heard a satisfactory explanation for the astonishing "unofficial" tallies in NYC after the Feb. 5 primary. I understand the "official" tallies gave Obama and Clinton a few thousand additional votes in each borough, but it doesn't explain why there were districts in the city where Obama certainly should have done well but received an "unofficial" tally of 0 votes. How do we know the "official" tallies are any more accurate than the "unofficial" ones? What's the actual process for each type of tally and were these results as sinister as they seem?

Martin says he’s in a runoff — Chambliss says, ‘Not yet’ Wednesday, November 5, 2008, 09:46 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
During the pre-dawn hours, Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss slipped below the 50 percent mark, and the U.S. Senate race now appears headed toward a runoff with Democrat Jim Martin.
The Chambliss campaign said this morning that it’s not conceding anything, and will wait for a smattering of precincts, absentees and paper ballots to be counted.
The Democratic campaign says that it’s now in runoff mode. Martin has an 11:45 a.m. press conference scheduled

two questions:
In 2004, the media put its head under the sand by saying that the exit polls were wrong, rather than facing the more likely scenario that the votes were stolen. Are the exit polls this year in alignment with the count?
and, out of curiosity: What happened with that crazy Congresswoman who went on Hardball and said that the media should investigate anti-Americanism in Congress? Was she ousted?

Do we have any sense of the effects of widespread Republican efforts to disenfranchise poor and minority voters by striking tens of thousands from the polls?
For example, Georgia, where it looks like Saxby Chambliss will pull it out despite efforts to register thousands of new voters.

I spent the past 2 days volunteering for the Obama campaign in Ft. Lauderdale. Many people did not receive their absentee ballots and consequently could not vote. One woman I met while canvassing told me she had 2 jobs and wasn't sure if she could make it to the polls. After hearing these stories, I decided to make a donation to an organization that I heard of through this program called "Why Tuesday".
