A Polar-izing Issue

Thursday, May 15, 2008

The polar bear is now listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act due to projections of melting sea ice at the pole. Is this a sign of a changing government position on global climate change? Andrew Wetzler, Director of the Endangered Species Project at the National Resources Defense Council, explains the significance.

@michael - well you must live in the Reality Based Community(tm). I was kidnapped by neocons and rendered to a black site in Poland back in '02. What did I miss?

It seems more and more that every move the current administration makes is to advance their own oil-centric interests. This whole polar bear thing is their (thankfully, hopefully) short-termed attempts to allow arctic drilling.

Nobody could have predicted that:

a) terrorists would fly planes into the World Trade Center;
b) there would be sectarian violence in Iraq;
c) no WMD would be found;
d) the Bush administration would do nothing about the polar bear or global warming.

Nobody.

Bush is a day late and a dollar short.

A meaningless gesture coming from someone who cares nothing for the environment unless one of his friends' companies can make windfall profits.
