This week saw the first inductees into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. We are joined by Mark Sceurman and Mark Moran of Weird New Jersey. We also want to hear from you about your picks for New Jersey's favorite sons and daughters.

Filmmaker Kevin Smith (Red Bank, NJ)
John Matthew Shippen, Jr. an African American competed in the 1896 U.S. Open, and was tied for the lead after 18 holes. He competed in four more U.S. Open Championships. He was the golf pro at the Shady Rest Golf Course in Scotch Plains from 1924 until his retirement in 1960. Shady Rest is now the Scotch Hills Country Club.

I was at the induction ceremony which was absolutely wonderful! All those luminaries who received the award (except for Bill Bradley and Meryl Streep) actually showed up to receive it personally-that says a lot. Best part of the evening--Bruce Springsteen's speech about growing up in NJ and his "Benediction." Does anyone knonw where I could get a copy of these???

Kazimierz PuĊaski was from poland, not new jersey. I can't find any evidence he ever stepped foot in NJ
Stephen Colbert has lived in NJ, but he's not from NJ originally. (My friend actually worked at the video store he used to go to).
John Augustus Roebling -- designer of the Brooklyn Bridge -- from Trenton
PAUL ROBESON--a key figure in the history of the American Left, music, film and race relations. A powerful voice for liberty in every sense! And he grew up in NJ and attended Rutgers where he was a big football star too.
walt whitman spent the last... more than five! years of his life in south jersey. =) he was pretty great.
