Chris Shaw claimed on the air that 700,000 people buy the Post each day, compared with 400,000 several years ago. Does this count the thousands of NY Posts that are given away on the street? I see copies being given away nearly every day near Grand Central. That's one way to boost circulation figures.
Even when it's free, I wouldn't read that rag.

Kudos to planetthoughts.org for pointing out an important difference between the NYPost and the Daily News.
DN obviously doesn't have the resources of a NY Times, but they do perform the ostensible function of a local paper which is to periodically investigate home town issues. And sometimes they do that very, very well.

Remember the huge photo of the kid who dressed up as Hitler for Halloween and was sent home from school? If it was so offensive as to get the student expelled, WHY A PICTURE OF HIM IN COSTUME ON THE FRONT PAGE??? Thanks, 'Post'. You're the worst.

The Post is garbage, because the reporting is based solely on business goals, not news goals. I am disappointed that Brian L. is giving them any attention. Not that I am a snob - in addition to the NY Times, I often enjoy the Daily News. The reason is that the Daily News often has in-depth stories about the New York City area that are missed by everyone else, and they are not the information toy of a distorted billionaire serving his personal and family business interests rather than the public's interest.

We used to have a Grand Union supermarket in the center of my village of Larchmont, and it closed 4 years ago. It was replaced with a CVS. It is a loss because the Grand Union was the only supermarket within the village and was walking distance for many elderly people living in apartment buildings in the village. It also served people who wanted to avoid using their cars and either walked there or took a bike. Now everybody must drive to the only 2 supermarkets left which happen to both be Stop & Shops!
