I was laid of from one of the Major financial services corporations last month. I work in Systems Administration, and the market, even for highly skilled workers, is just abysmal at the moment. There are jobs, but they are paying much less than I made in the year 2000. Year over year I was already subject to a net decrease in pat due to inflation; now this will be compounded by actually being paid less in real dollars.

I work as an editor for a small Manhattan-based research firm. We produce political and technical analysis of oil-rich countries in the Middle East and North Africa and sell those reports to international oil companies. Needless to say, business is booming.

I am a freelance computer graphics professional. earning the same thing as 10 years ago, and it is much harder to find gigs.
