We're all struggling to find that perfect gift. What do you recommend?

Plant a tree in dad's name, or donate to an organization that sponsors tree-planting in areas where it's needed.

This is more like a Father's Day Challenge as well as the ultimate gift for some dads out there. I am 45. At the age of 40 I met my birth father for the first time. My dad was not in my life. Last year he told me "I was young and foolish and you're mom said 'You don't have to stay'." So he didn't. My father passed away of prostate cancer last Feb. -- one of too many black men suffering from a disease with a 90% cure rate.

So the challenge: be the first to reach out to your dad and do what I did. I thanked him five years ago for having a roll in the hay with my mom. If it wasn't for him (as well as my mom) I would have the remarkable life I have as a scholar, performer and coach.

The gift: I wrote a song in honor of my reunion with my dad called "BLACK CAN BE ME" a blues about what can come from reconciling with your father and the positive impact it has on loving others esp. men.

The CD would be a great gift with my story for your dad or any dad whose daughter or son has not made the move yet.

BE THE TRUE REVOLUTION is the name of the album and "Black Can Be Me" the single - both available on iTunes and CDBaby.net

I created artwork from a photo of me and grandpa that had recently died last year about 2 months before father's day. I used a website www.photofiddle.com that turned my photo into an oil painting on canvas. When he opened it he smiled and then tears like I have never seen rolled down his cheeks. He told me that it was just the most perfect gift.

My father's dog is very ill and will probably not make it to next father's day, so my sister and I plan to find a great photo of our dad with the dog and frame it for him.

Every single year since I was age 10, my dad has asked, nay, BEGGED me to get him a toy Hovercraft for Father's Day. A true child at heart. I haven't done it yet....

My 86-year-old father has had a long journey from being a Republican to becoming a Democrat, and an open-minded one at that. For Father's Day, I'm giving him Barack Obama's two books. Obama is my father's new hero!
