It’s only June and already the New York power grid has been failing, leaving many to point the finger at energy powerhouse Con Edison. So, if it’s this bad now, what can we expect when August comes around? New York Times reporter Ken Belson explains.

The fact that Con Ed does not accept renewable surplus electricity from commercial buildings in NYC truly defines "nonsense". The City is throwing away locally created renewable kWh's. A commercial buildings solar array is shut down if it starts to export electricity and owners have no incentive to over size and take advantage of large roof areas that generate more than their load.
People are talking about Con Ed's inability to build more power plants-(because no neighborhood wants them) meanwhile they are refusing to accept energy from small solar "power plants" already in existence all over the city-and in the process- creating a disincentive for larger scale solar installations.
I remember that the power failure of 8/14/08 occured because the power company, Niagra Mohaw did not do adequate maintenance on its systems because it is not profitable to do so and because there is no law compelling it to do so. As far as I know, that has not changed, so look for it to happen again.
It's freaking 100 degrees and we're only in June. August is gonna suck.
For all you global-warming deniers out there-how's the weather lately?
