Dan Colarusso, managing editor at portfolio.com, talks about why it's not just the saturated fat in the hot-dogs that you have to watch out for. Lisa Gurley and Deborah, posters on Chowhound.com, offer advice for what to eat at New York's local ballparks.

I am a vegan and a long-time Mets' ticket plan holder. I always bring my own food and drinks and as long as the bottle is plastic, they never take it away. Tip: If you want to buy drinks at Shea, keep a few bottle caps in your pocket, so you can just re-cap it when the vendor walks away!
I am dreading next year. With all the new food concessions, I envision them prohibiting us from bringing in any outside food, and raising the price of a bottle of water to over $5!
Thanks for ruining that great hot dog I had at Camden Yards last Sunday! And I was looking forward to another one at Fenway this Sunday. Not.......
I have Friday night season tickets. For the past 4 years I have brought an avocado, cheddar cheese and coleslaw sandwich on whole grain from Garden of Eden... oh, and a container of olives of course (how else do you make a dirty beertini?).
Don't know what the official rules are at Shea, but when I was there two weeks ago, our group brought in several bags of our own food and 4 or 5 2-liter bottles of soda with no problem.
How about prairie oysters at Coors Field in Denver
At the Great American BallPark in Cincinnati they have veggie dogs. I think you should note that.
Let's just hope the little black peppercorns in the salami are just that, peppercorns! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!
Karen
ya i'm going clean my apartment this weekend
I don't go to any sports events but I have to say I wouldn't expect it to be any better than MacDonalds or Taco Bell or any of those fast food places. Blech!!
Are theses inspection standards univeral? Is there a relationship between strictness of the health codes and number of violations?
I can't access his site listed above, I get an error message. Is it my computer or are others having a problem?
what about norwalk i got that twice in nyc
Sounds like my friend, she leaves dirty dishes all over the place and washes dishes once a week. Needless to say, I don't eat at her house.
What can O-Ba-Ma do about the condition of Ballpark Food- I mean, it's absolutely un-American that this issue is not addressed by Senator O-Ba-Ma !!
I'm going to the Mets game with Daddy for his birthday today, what is healthy to eat at the ball park for us?
Thank you for you suggestions.
I stick with the peanuts and a beer or Coke. It's a safe choice.
Everyone should just be vegans and then they won't have all that saturated and transfat and will have the healthy vibrant glow of living on live food, not dead cooked hot dogs probably made from road kill meat.
The new CitiField will have outposts of two Danny Meyers establishments-- Shake Shack and Blue Smoke, plus more catering by Meyer's USHG throughout the park. Assuming Joe Sixpack and his brood can get into CitiField, is he going to be able to afford to get them all hotdogs, too?
I agree that ballpark food at Shea has historically been disgusting (with some exceptions, like Mama's), but can't they find some way of providing everyone with some decent choices?
