So the Border Patrol isn't hiring anyone for these positions who's over 40? Guess they don't want *that* much experience after all. Isn't age discrimination illegal?

Many law firms are collapsing and a lot are laying off. A downturn in economic activity means less legal work. Unless its Bankrupcy

What about hair dresser? Sure, you'd need to go to school but on the plus side people can't outsource their haircuts overseas.
I think this discussion is a joke. You have someone on your show trying to sell a book by using their website (federaljobs.net), but this is all for free! After college, I applied and became a US park ranger and was in processing for a US border patrol agent. The REAL website necessary is
www.usajobs.gov
This is the ONLY authorized employment website by the US government. If you're a student:
www.studentjobs.gov
I'm disappointed with these guests....

it might sound ridiculous, but a good way to make a little cash while looking for other work is to try freelancing in film/tv/theater. i am a freelance carpenter and i work an average of 6 days a week all over the 5 boroughs and new jersey. there are decent wages to be had and, no matter how bad the economy is, these theaters need to pay their rent, so there are always shows going in and out that need people to work them.
