The guest host and New York's senior editor sounded a bit flustered when talking about the clothing-optional beach at Gunnison. Why not be brave and use these last days of summer to experience nude recreation and the joys of swimming without a suit? An opposite experience from a big public beach is a beautiful nudist resort close to the city. www.rocklodge.com

Starting this Saturday and running through August 27 is "Battle Week" a commemoration of the first battle the United States as a nation during the Revolution. The battle was rout for the US, but cemented George Washington's reputation as a leader. Activities range from a walking tour of battle sites in Prospect Park and Park Slope to a guided harbor cruise. For information and schedule call 718-768-3195 or visit www.theoldstonehouse.org.

Go see the history-obsessed band Pinataland playing a FREE show at the Old Stone House this Saturday (they're my pals). 7PM in Park Slope. They're great.

The Botanical Garden in the Bronx has a marvelous installation of Henry Moore sculpture.
Even if you have visited the garden many times, it is a whole new experience to see the landscape around or through the negative spaces inthese works. Also, one can get there via subway!

You can't beat the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Especially in the Summer, the roof gardens or the annex uptown at the Cloisters are wonderful

The Fringe Festival starts this week, with many plays and performances. In particular, I recommend Galatea, which I had the opportunity to see in another production and which was nominated for an LA Weekly playwrighting award.
