Neither of your guests have yet noted that the US is acting much as it used to.

In particular, Russia is acting as it did continuously since World War 2, in particular acting to avoid being entirely surrounded by US allies. And the US has acted as it did in the Cold War, namely to surround Russia by American allies.

Few are mentioning the US support for the Georgia regime, which certainly has not treated its minority populations well.

Israel is knee deep in this conflict, reports indicate that they "Israel" were advising the Georgian government and military in facilitating the best way to attack the break away province of Georgia.

Why should Russia listen to the US?
