Governor Spitzer has a scandal on his hands, just as he tries to "clean up Albany." How will it affect his legislative agenda?
State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Dean Skelos, R-9th (Southwest Nassau County), and State Assemblyman Peter Rivera, D-76th (Bronx), assess the situation.

Oh man...I can't stand it. I'm listening to the comments by Bruno right now and I laughed so hard when he mentioned integrity. Bruno, equating himself with INTEGRITY??? WHAT A JOKE!!!!
Spitzer over-stepped and it's a shame because the state is going to continue to be in the grasp of this tool Bruno and all his special interests. Spitzer is really turning out to be a disappointment.
Brian missed the deeper story. This cloud has a silver lining!
Yes, Spitzer messed up. Kinda like Elliott Ness going after Al Capone "forgetting" to get a search warrant.
Bruno is dirty. The whole damned system is nothing more than legalized bribery.
Bruno does ten minutes of "state business" and that justifies a state police escorted piloted official helicopter ride to a fundraiser in NYC!?
Even the Cuomo report says that the rules that allow Bruno that luxury are screwed up.
Spitzer has tried to be somewhat moderate in his quest for reform. Maybe now he'll learn that there is no "moderate" way to handle these dangerous vicious corrupt creatures of a de facto criminal establishment.
Spitzer must realize that he has virtually no friends in the statehouse.
The whole campaign finance system is nothing more than legalized bribery. Spitzer knows that. It's too late to nibble away at the problem.
Either Spitzer destroys the status quo; or the status quo will destroy Spitzer.
This is an opportunity for Spitzer to go over the heads of ALL the establishment pols (of BOTH parties) who like things as they are. Spitzer can turn this lemon into lemonade; but it'll take a radical change of tactics on his part.
Spitzer must lead the people of the state to demand root to branch radical reforms that give 100 public campaign finance. He needs to be willing to take the risk of big failure if he wishes to achieve a big victory.
Let's face it; the vast majority of people rightly believe that the system is corrupt; if Spitzer actually leads/educates/motivate a real grassroots mopvement....he's in a position to revolutionize NY politics...and set an example for the whole country!
Imagine pols actually writing laws to serve the voters instead of the monied interests! When that end is achieved everything will change.
Again, this will either make Spitzer, or break him.
Can these people stop fooling around with para-politics and get some work done? They are our representatives in a state assembly not lords at court playing touche! Give me a break. All politicians are dirty can't stand up to some close scrutiny. The system is imperfect. Lets keep it that way. Tempest in a teapot.
Do we ever learn? I guess I'm old enough and have seen the same-ol' same-ol' SO much that I did NOT vote for Spitzer (I think I hit the "rents too high" party lever) because everything about spitzer says hypocrite and I wanted him to "know" (!) that not 100% of the state was fooled. Oh dear. The Nixon analogy is interesting because of what seems his overriding interest in getting elected. Period. (and next will be White house). Haven't we had enough of paranoid bullies in "leadership" positions? And why is it that those "leaders" always seem to go the route of "Well, when she bought a pink leather couch with public money, that was bad, but when I do it, that's a different story" (You fill in the necessary details -- for "pink couch" say "misuse of public employees" or "lying to hte press" or... "I am not a crook".
Bravo congressman, this certainly smacks of Washington. The precedent has been set and who knows if ever we can get out of this sleazy muck. People should be required to testify under oath and if they refuse they should be punished with either jail time or public service AND a BIG fine! We've become a nation of criminals and thugs. Thank you W!!
i wish you had pushed skelos harder on the republicans possibly using this scandal as an excuse to weasel out the campaign finance deal.
What did Senator Skelos mean when he said "that would put their people in Jail" while talking about the propasal to expand the DNA database.
Was that a rasict statement - that more people of color who tend to vote Democratic will be entrapped by the DNA Database?
Listening to this segment. Disgustingly PARTISAN, and the guy is full of distain for humans or our politics, and yes
HE IS taking his anger out at the governor
Before the show starts, I regretted voting for Spitzer - and having told friends I would vote for him - the minute he undid a done deal regarding our housing in Roosevelt Island, contrary to his promise. I mean in a very short time after he took office, he pulled teh rug out from under us.
His word to me is now meaningless. And don't even ask for an opinion of Andrew Cuomo as atty genl? What a farce this administration is!
Did the state police also investigate former comptroller Alan Hevesi (and his wife)?
