There are so many free events in the New York area this summer, but they come at a cost: standing in line. We take your calls on what's worth waiting in line for and what's not, as well as your stories about what you did while you waited.
I have my copies of Harry Potter Book 7 already ordered from Amazon, but I'm worried they aren't gonna get here on the day they come out, despite the promise they will. I'm debating about waiting in line as well the night before and getting the book then too.

I'll wait at Trader Joe's because there are some things you can only get at Trader Joe's (and it's a scene), tickets to any Springsteen show and the annual free ice cream day at Ben & Jerry's.

Relating to the topic earlier in the hour, nothing's more frustrating as a single person than waiting for hours in a line only to have someone's husband or wife sail in ahead of you and edge you out!

I waited for 6 hours to see Elliott Smith play in the basement at lit. And I waited for several hours for Rangers playoff tickets for a game that never happened.

When I lived in nyc I used to wait in line for Shake Shack. The wait wasn't that long back then, maybe 10 or 20 minutes. When I visited a couple of weeks ago, the wait looked to be at least 2 hours so I didn't bother.

I don't usually believe in waiting in ridiculously long lines. I haven't had a burger at Shake Shack in a year or so because I haven't been willing to wait for it.
That said I went to Tokyo and stood in line for 2 hours for what turned out to be the best sushi I've ever had.

I make visitors stand in line for tickets. For instance, I'm at work right now, but my mom has been in line for Shakespeare in the Park tickets since 9:20am!
