Jennifer Bogo, senior science editor at Popular Mechanics magazine, talks about the new energy bill--and its mandate to phase out the incandescent lightbulb.
I think the intention is good but not at all convinced about the validity of this product because it is source of mercury. Many people will not follow through the "special" procedures for safe disposal/recycling. She keeps stating that it is better for all of the citizens to become the modality rather than the coal fired power plants. What is the percentage breakdown of power plant sources in the USA and isn't it easier to control fewer sources than many?
In my opinion I think this is a wasted step, a product that is not well enough thought out and will only serve to spread the hazards of mercury, LEDs are the better choice.

There are dimmable CFL bulbs, and I think this is quite an excellent development! Lighting makes up about 15% of energy use, so it's definitely worth pushing.

the new energy-saver lightbulbs don't work with dimmer switches, which many people have. they burn out quickly on a dimmer switch.
