Alvin Hall, personal finance expert and author of You and Your Money: It's More Than Just the Numbers (Atria, 2007), joins us for the month of December to discuss the end of year financial decisions you need to make.

I do my taxes on turbotax and the program will automatically flag you if you qualify to pay AMT and will make you go through the calculations.
One thing that the government doesn't consider is that the more tax burden they place, the more people will avoid it. I moved to NYC to save up my money for a home. As soon as I have enough, I plan to move to a place where the cost of living is small, and make as little as I can per year (and thus pay less taxes) to live on and support my family.
What it boils down to is that the higher the burden, the more motivated I am to avoid it.
