I work near the Staten Island Ferry. There were no trains in that area. I spent over 2 hours getting to work, first on the F train feeling like a sardene then stuck on the M. Great fun.

at 8:30 i checked the mta website. it listed hardly any of the subway service shutdowns. it said nothing of the brooklyn interruptions even though i had just returned from finding the g train closed. in fact, the website hadn't been updated in over and hour during the busiest time of the day. where else is one to look for information? they obviously don't think it's important enough to update their website.

SNL? I remember Bill Cosby's old routine, "A Nut in Every Car," explaining the crazy people on the subway as the system's "going out of their way to entertain you." He had the unintelligible announcements happening at the bus terminals...because they hired drunks to make them.

alix from Manhattan (work)

I had little trouble getting to work. I took the bus from Union City, NJ into Port Authority and walked down to 29th and Madison as usual. The same storms that blew through NYC blew through Hudson County just across the river, yet none of the NYC coverage mentions damage in Jersey. Part of a retaining wall near where I live collapsed in an early summer rain storm (consecutive days) and I've heard that more of it may have collapsed this morning (on Manhattan Avenue in Jersey City/Union City). Any information anyone??
