Ariel Sharon was an architect of the Likud Party in Israel and the Jewish settler movement. But now he’s abandoned both to found a new political party with Labor’s Shimon Peres. Together, they’ll push for withdrawal from much of the West Bank and the absorption of several large settlements into Israel.
