The annual Jazz In July festival at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan has had an abundance of great programs this year. Bill Charlap is celebrating his 10th anniversary as artistic director while the festival marks its 30th. His program touched on many different faces of the American songbook: Miles Davis, Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein, and Fred Astaire. There was a meeting of three generations of piano men – Dick Hyman (the previous artistic director of Jazz In July), Charlap and Christian Sands. Last night was devoted to the divine one, Sarah Vaughan.
