Francis Torres

Hi, my name is Francis Torres. I'm 20 years old. I was attending Walton High School, but I dropped out when I hit the 12th grade. I love to play sports such as basketball, baseball, football and golf and I'm also available (to talk to people I know and give them advice). I want to be a basketball player, and gym is my favorite subject.
Summer 2004

Interesting Fact: My interesting fact is that I have two birthdays. The reason why I have two birthdays is because I got shot in my ankle on January 17, 2004. I had the chance to die, but with God's blessing I reborn and had another chance to live.

Story Description: Second Chance
When Francis got shot in the leg, he realized he had a second chance at life. Another young person was shot in his neighborhood a few months before him and tragically died. Francis' story is about how his life changed after the shooting.

Francis' Mentor:

Leslie Koren
does the reverse commute, so she can live in her beloved New York and write features for The Bergen Record in New Jersey. Before that she covered crime and courts for many years, both at The Record and at The Burlington Free Press in Vermont. She has the OJ Simpson trial to thank for her big break in journalism, as she started her media career first as an intern and then as a producer/writer at a news and talk radio station in San Francisco that was covering the trial 24/7. Her ideal day is spent exploring the city and enjoying the random exchanges that make city living delightful.

Interesting Fact: I love to break out into dance alone in my apartment when I am listening to the radio.
