What Up? My name is Angely Tavares but almost everybody calls me Angie. I'm fourteen years old. I live on the Lower east Side of Manhattan, known as L.E.S. My parents are from the Dominican Republic so that means that I'm Dominican, which is something I'm proud of. My favorite color is blue.

Interesting Fact: Just in case you didn't know I'm a balla, and "I'm balling out of control." This means I get a lot of guys' numbers.

Story Description: Angely has family in the Dominican Republic, and she goes there every year for vacation. She adores the DR and often wishes she lived there, instead of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. But many Dominicans, like Angely's father and grandfather, immigrate to New York for a "better life." Angely's not sure they're making the right choice.

Mentor: Sarah Kramer just finished her first film Time Out, a documentary about three twelve-year old boys at a summer camp for children in need. She has worked as an associate producer and researcher on a variety of documentaries for PBS and HBO including In Memoriam, Miss America, and New York: A Documentary Film as well as educational pieces for the Children's AID Society and the Board of Education.
