Interesting Fact: When I was about 8 year old, I fell into a lake, and my uncle jumped in after me. Instead of trying to save my life, he went after my shoe. Story Description: Janesse says she and her mother have one thing in common -- they were both betrayed by Janesse's father. He left them for Heroin when she was only a school girl. Janesse takes her microphone to her father's house to try to convince him he should leave Heroin alone. But she can't convice him to stop. A clinical expert tells her there's nothing she can do, but she finds that hard to believe. Mentor: Nesse's mentor is Beth Fertig. Since 1995, Beth has been covering city politics, education, and social welfare issues for WNYC News, and has been a frequent contributor to National Public Radio. Beth loves international travel, but says a trip on the subway is the next best thing. She also covers child welfare issues like foster care and her numerous honors include national awards for a series on the city's lack of shelter for homeless teenagers. |
