Story Description: Growing up Alone
Sunnie Hwang moved to the US from Korea, hoping she would find the happiness she had as a child -- when her parents were still alive.

Mentor: Sunnie's mentor is Melanie Lefkowitz. Melanie is a reporter for Newsday's city edition, where she covers cops and crime. She worked at the Providence Journal in Rhode Island from 1998 to 2000. Before attending the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 1997, she worked for a year as a teacher in a Brooklyn public school. Melanie is an avid fiction reader and singer-songwriter on guitar.
