Interesting fact: I struggled with being a woman, but I've dealt with my struggle and I hope to learn more as a woman.

Story Description: Religion and Family
Religion brings some families together, but Heather Oplinger says it pushes others apart. She and her mother are among many who argue over where and how to worship.

Mentor: Heather's mentor is Abigail Beshkin. Abigail just graduated from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where she concentrated in radio. For the last four years she has been working in higher-education public relations, most recently for Columbia University, and prior to that at Fordham University. Before that, she was a speech writer for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Her freelance work has appeared in the New York Times and Salon.com and she has worked as a fill-in news anchor for WFUV public radio. Abigail loves exercise-- her current obsessions are yoga and Israeli dance.
