WNYC Expands its Podcast Portfolio Through Production Partnership with
“SNAP JUDGMENT”

Amazing. Like a cousin of This American Life that grew up in a wildly different neighborhood…” – Ira Glass

(August 19, 2015 -- New York, NY) – WNYC today announced a new partnership with Snap Judgment, one of the highest-ranked podcasts to emerge from the public radio system, as well as a successful radio show distributed by NPR.

As part of the deal, which is effective October 1, WNYC will become a co-producer and creative consultant, and lead all podcast sponsorship sales for the Snap Judgment podcast. Host and creator Glynn Washington and his team will continue to produce the show from their studios in Oakland, CA. NPR, which has partnered with Snap Judgment since its launch in 2010, will continue to oversee distribution of the radio show to nearly 350 public radio stations across the country.

“We are delighted to join forces with the creative powerhouse WNYC,” said Washington. “I’m lucky to work with the finest team of storytelling geniuses ever assembled, and together with WNYC, we are already cooking up some amazing projects. We can’t wait to give everybody a taste. The mission – to rock the world.”

The partnership expands WNYC’s portfolio of award-winning podcasts, including top iTunes-rated hits Radiolab, Freakonomics Radio, Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin, Death, Sex & Money, and Note to Self, as well as an upcoming show with The New Yorker debuting this fall.

“Glynn Washington is an American original,” said Dean Cappello, Chief Content Officer, WNYC. “He has deep roots in the art of storytelling, and he’s helped reimagine radio and podcasting by giving a platform to a new generation of voices to tell the story of America right now. WNYC is home to distinctive voices including Jad Abumrad, Anna Sale, Alec Baldwin, Stephen Dubner, and others, and we’re excited to add to that list a storyteller as gifted and beloved by audiences as Glynn.”

Hailed by The Guardian as a program that “consistently turns out some of the most captivating stories to ever air,” Snap Judgment (“storytelling, with a beat”) presents compelling personal narratives, mixing music with real drama to produce cinematic and compelling storytelling. Glynn Washington developed the show with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting after besting over 1500 contestants to win the Public Radio Talent Quest.

Now in its sixth year, Snap Judgment is heard on nearly 350 public radio stations nationwide, and reaches many more listeners via podcast. Snap Judgment combines a radio show, podcast, robust social media presence, a series of sold-out live shows, and occasional television specials. Snap Judgment is Executive Produced by Glynn Washington & Mark Ristich
