Podcasting 101: Extra Help

Help With iTunes


Installation

  • Download the latest version of iTunes here.

Search for a Podcast

In iTunes 7.2, click on the Podcasts menu item on the left hand side underneath Library. Click on the Podcast Directory on the bottom of the iTunes window. This will take you to the podcasting directory for browsing for your favorite podcasts.

You can use the search feature on the left to search for a specific podcast. For instance, you can type Brian Lehrer and it will find the feed. Simply click the subscribe button to add the feed to your podcasts. The feed will now appear in the podcasts main window of your iTunes.

Manually Add a Podcast

In iTunes 7.2, click on the Podcasts menu item on the left hand side underneath Library. On the top menu, go to Advanced and choose Subscribe to Feed. In the window, paste in the desired feed URL and click OK.

For instance, for the "Brian Lehrer Show," enter:

http://www.wnyc.org/rss/show.py?show=lehrer

The feed will now appear in the podcasts main window of your iTunes. Right-click on the feed and choose Update podcast to get the latest podcast segments. For a complete list of the WNYC podcasts, visit our podcast page.

Schedule Automatic Downloads

Click on the podcasts menu item on the left hand side underneath Library. Click on the podcast feed you'd like to schedule and click on the Settings button on the bottom right of your iTunes.

Under Podcasts and check for new episodes you can set your iTunes to check and download new feeds automatically and schedule it to happen hourly, daily, weekly, etc.
