The Leonard Lopate Show Book Club’s September selection is Zoë Heller’s first novel, Everything You Know. It’s a cynical dark comedy about a hack writer and accused murderer who becomes engrossed in his estranged daughter’s diaries after she commits suicide. They lead him to confront his failings as a father and in life. The New York Times called it “an acerbic, sneakily touching novel about the rehabilitation of a monster.”

Novelist Zoe Heller discusses Nancy Mitford’s enduringly popular novel, The Pursuit of Love, (for which she wrote the forward).The novel is a classic comedy about growing up and falling in love among the privileged and eccentric, and Mitford modeled her characters after her own famously unconventional family. Heller will also discuss the importance of Mitford’s work as a whole, on the occasion of the publication of her 1935 novel Wigs on the Green, which was kept out of print for more than 30 years by the author and her estate.

Zoe Heller returns to talk about her latest novel, The Believers. The book is a comic, tragic and supremely entertaining novel about one family's struggles with the consolations of faith and the trials of doubt.
