Serge Bromberg

Film preservationist Serge Bromberg was on the Lopate Show to talk about restoring Georges Méliès' film "A Trip to the Moon," and other great classics. He shared a few of his favorite things with us.

Film preservationist and entertainer Serge Bromberg talks about his recently restored color version of Georges Méliès’ film "A Trip to the Moon" and a selection of rare silent films from around the world. The program “A Trip to the Moon and Other Travels” is playing at BAM April 9, at 7 pm, and features silent shorts with live accompaniment from Bromberg, including: "A Trip Down Market Street" (1906), "San Francisco After the Catastrophe" (1906), "After the Ball" (1897), and "The Love Nest" (1923) a Buster Keaton short about a boat trip.

Serge Bromberg, of Lobster Films, discusses the hand-painted color version of Georges Méliès’ “Le Voyage dans la lune” (“A Trip to the Moon”) (1902), unseen for 109 years until its glorious new restoration by Lobster Films, Groupama Gan Foundation for Cinema and Technicolor Foundation for Cinema Heritage, and talks about the world premiere of his and Eric Lange’s 2011 documentary “The Extraordinary Voyage.”  “The Extraordinary Voyage” and “A Trip to the Moon,” are both playing as part of MoMA’s “To Save and Protect” program.

Film preservationist and accompanist Serge Bromberg tells us about some rediscovered silent films, being screened in “Treasures from a Chest,” a curated program celebrating 100 years of animation. Bromberg provides live piano accompaniment and commentary.
