In 1968, writer Ellen Willis became The New Yorker’s first popular music critic. For seven years, she wrote about the intersections of pop music, politics, and the sheer joy of listening in a column aptly called “Rock, Etc.” Now, five years after her death, her work has been collected in a volume called "Out of The Vinyl Deeps: Ellen Willis on Rock Music." Her daughter Nona Willis Aronowitz, who also edited the book, joins us to discuss discovering – and rediscovering – her mother’s pioneering writings.
