Her books include Knickerbocker: The Myth Behind New York, and Cityscopes: New York. She served as editor of the Penguin Classics editions of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Other Stories and A History of New York, and consults to Historic Hudson Valley, whose properties include Irving's home, Sunnyside. A paperback edition of Knickerbocker will be published this October.
