Paul Appleby

Paul Appleby is in his first year of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Mr. Appleby is also in his second year of The Juilliard School’s Artist Diploma in Opera Studies Program, where he recently performed the role of Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff. Other recent engagements include Agenore in Mozart’s Il re pastore at Opera Theater of St. Louis and Eumete in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria in his debut with the Wolf Trap Opera Company.

As a recitalist, he has performed extensively with Steven Blier and the New York Festival of Song, including a recent solo recital with Mr. Blier, and the world premiere of pieces by composers John Musto and William Bolcom. He was the 2009 winner of the Joy in Singing Competition; a 2009 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Grand Prize Winner; and will be giving recitals in New York this fall for Joy in Singing, and the Judith Raskin Memorial Recital.

His concert credits include appearances with Musica Sacra, the Baton Rouge and Lansing Symphony Orchestras, and his home town orchestra, the South Bend Symphony. He will be joining the Oratorio Society of New York as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah at Carnegie Hall in December. Mr. Appleby received his Master’s degree from Juilliard in 2008 where he continues to study with Marlena Malas. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2005 with degrees in English Literature and Music.
