Lawrence E. Hinkle

Lawrence Hinkle was a pioneer in developing quantitative studies within the field of Human Ecology.

Dr. Lawrence E. Hinkle, Jr.,  (February 7, 1918—January 10, 2012) was born and raised in Raleigh, N. C. and received his Medical Doctor degree from Harvard in 1942. After service in World War II he joined the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, where he researched how human health is affected by the environment and, later, by social and cultural factors; this led to his interest in interrogation techniques during the Korean War. Dr. Hinkle worked at New York Hospital for over 40 years while publishing over 135 scientific papers.
