Bonus Track: The Bo-Keys

Monday, October 17, 2011

The Bo-Keys isn't just a soul revival band making a play on the past. Among its members are musicians who've played alongside Al Green, Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes - the man behind the Academy Award-winning theme from Shaft. Bo-Keys co-founder Skip Pitts is the guitarist playing the "wah-wah" riff in the opening of the original theme - and he and the band stuck around after we went off the air to play us their version of the iconic tune.

In Studio: The Bo-Keys

Monday, October 17, 2011

The Bo-Keys bring an old fashioned Memphis sound to their latest album “Got To Get Back.” But it’s not a revival – these guys are the real deal. Although the band formed in 1998, many of the members, like guitarist Charles “Skip” Pitts, have been recording for the soul city’s labels since the 1960s and 70s. They join us in studio for a live performance.
