Ducktails: NPR Front Row

Friday, March 22, 2013

Ducktails started out as a solo side project for Real Estate's Matt Mondanile, but four albums in, it's turned into a serious collaborative lovefest. Mondanile worked with members of Cults, Oneohtrix Point Never and Big Troubles, in order to create Ducktails' emotional psych-pop sounds on his newest album, The Flower Lane.

At SXSW 2013, it was no surprise to discover that Mondanile decided to create no advance set lists for any of Ducktails' performances. This is a live band that thrives on experimentation, playing around and taking chances. Upon taking the stage at Austin's Clive Bar for the Filter magazine/Tumblr day party, Ducktails launched into a engaging set, featuring kicky guitars and emotive strains of organ and synth. Watch the band play "Letter of Intent" here.
