Local Lawmakers Campaign in Puerto Rico
by Andrea Bernstein
Though the delegate math makes it all but impossible for Senator Clinton to win the nomination, Congresswoman Nydia Velezquez, Assemblyman Jose Rivera and several other New York politicians are traveling to Puerto Rico to campaign through the commonwealth's primary on Sunday.
Though residents of the island don't have a vote in November's election, they do have 63 delegates in the Democratic primary. Half of the 50 US states don't have that many.
Barack Obama also has a large operation in Puerto Rico, with several New York unions sending members to organize for him. A big loss would be embarrassing for Obama, who has been losing among Latinos in most states in the democratic contest.
For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein.
