City Beaches Open
by Kathleen Horan
NEW YORK, NY May 24, 2008 —The city's fourteen miles of public beaches are open -- in four of the five boroughs. Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe says it isn't hard to appreciate sun, surf and sand - especially when it doesn't cost a dime.
BENEPE: They were built to be these great beaches for the working people and they are accessible by subway - and they are free - unlike some of the other towns you don't have to pay or have some kind of special membership.
REPORTER: The beaches will be open every day from 10am till 6pm through Labor Day.
