Local Response to Gay Marriage Ruling
by Jenna Flanagan
NEW YORK, NY May 16, 2008 —REPORTER: After yesterday's gay marriage ruling in California, Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell could have the chance to follow in his sister Rosie's steps and get married in California.
But, the openly gay lawmaker says he's committed to wait until he can wed at home.
O'DONNELL: I was born in New York, I was raised in New York, I was educated in New York, I pay taxes in New York, I'm an elected official in New York. I want to get married in my own state.
REPORTER: The California Supreme Court ruled that domestic partnerships are not a sufficient substitute for marriage, enabling same-sex couples in the nation's most populous state to tie the knot.
