Cabbie Fined for Foul Language

by Kathleen Horan

NEW YORK, NY May 15, 2008 —New York City is known as a place where people express themselves and not always in the kindest ways.

But, cab drivers are being held to a higher standard.

A cabbie who cursed at another driver was fined $1,000 and had his license suspended for a month.

Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Matthew Daus says drivers must remember that they represent New York.

DAUS: The word is out there to drivers that this is a new time, a new city. Let's clean up our act and let's act a little bit more respectfully and with more decorum to our passengers and other motorists.

REPORTER: The TLC says one of the top five complaints by passengers is driver rudeness.

A lawyer for the driver who was fined for cursing says Daus has unreal expectations.
