Council Expected to Overturn Bloomberg's E-Waste Veto

by Bob Hennelly

NEW YORK, NY May 14, 2008 —The City Council is expected to override Mayor Bloomberg's veto of a bill that mandated manufacturers meet electronic waste recycling standards.

Mayor Bloomberg contends the bill will not withstand legal challenges and will hurt City businesses.

Recently the Bloomberg Administration and the Council reached an agreement on a bill that established a City-wide e-waste recycling program that will prohibit the public from dumping electronic appliances on the street after 2O1O and require the Department of Sanitation develop a collection program.
