Controversial Glass Tower Approved

by WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY May 14, 2008 —The Museum of Modern Art is one step closer to having a 75-story neighbor.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has unanimously approved two applications from Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel for the Midtown tower. It would include condos, hotel rooms and MoMA gallery space.

Neighborhood residents have opposed the skyscraper because of its massive scale. The tower ultimately needs approval from the city planning commission.
