New Yorkers Donate to Quake Relief

by Kathleen Horan

NEW YORK, NY May 14, 2008 — New Yorkers - especially Chinese-Americans - are answering the call for donations to victims of this week's devastating earthquake in China.

Queens resident James Lee stopped by the offices of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association yesterday to donate $100.

Lee says he doesn't know anyone personally hurt in the quake, but knew what he had to do.

LEE: I saw a lot of Chinese. They come here to pay the contribution to the people that need help in China - I feel very bad.

REPORTER: All day yesterday, a steady stream of people dropped by the offices of the CCBA to donate everything from pocket change to several thousand dollars.

The association hopes to collect $100,000 by next week.
