Knicks Introduce New Coach D'Antoni

by Amy Eddings

NEW YORK, NY May 13, 2008 —The New York Knicks introduced Mike D'Antoni as their new coach today, hoping his high-scoring brand of basketball will turn around a team with seven straight losing seasons.

D'Antoni brings his preference for a running, offensive style to a team that seems ill-suited to run it, but he vows he'll come up with a scheme that will work with this group.

D’ANTONI: I look at the roster. And that’s the roster we’re gonna win with.

REPORTER: D'Antoni, the former coach of the Phoenix Suns, won at least 54 games each of the last four seasons and earned coach of the year honors in 2005.

He replaces Isiah Thomas, who was fired last month after going 56-108 in two seasons.
