Mayor: West Side Remains Top Priority

by Arun Venugopal

NEW YORK, NY May 13, 2008 — Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city's top priority is still the development of the West Side rail yards.

He's dismissed suggestions by Sen. Charles Schumer that the city should let the Port Authority take the lead in developing the Moynihan Station.

The mayor added that the recently scuttled Tishman Speyer deal for the rail yards was complicated by meddling politicians.

BLOOMBERG: When you start having others weigh in on what should happen, developers get cold feet. If every level of government has a different view here, it's hard to know what they're facing. And it's their money.

REPORTER: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it's still in discussions with Tishman Speyer to reconsider developing the site after abruptly killing the deal last week.
