Newspaper Calls on Fossella to Step Down

by Lance Luckey

NEW YORK, NY May 09, 2008 —Saying his decisions have cost him the faith and respect of people who believed in him, the Staten Island Advance is calling on Republican Congressman Vito Fossella to resign immediately.

Just days after he was arrested in Virginia for drunk driving, the married father of three was forced to admit he had fathered another child out of wedlock.

In today's editorial the Staten Island Advance says "Far too much damage has been done to his personal reputation and credibility for him to recover and be an effective public servant."

Since 1997 Fossella has represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn.

He's the only Republican Congressman from New York City.
