NYC - Site of Police's Final Concert

by Amy Eddings

NEW YORK, NY May 06, 2008 —The Police - the band, not the NYPD - say they'll play their final concert sometime this summer, in New York City.

The band, which reunited for a 30th anniversary tour last year, says it has a special connection to the city...saying it kicked off its first American tour at the now-defunct CBGB in 1978.

Frontman Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland joined Mayor Michael Bloomberg in Times Square for the announcement.

Proceeds from the yet-to-be-scheduled concert will go toward arts programming for public television, with a $1 million donation for the mayor's initiative to plant one million trees in the city by 2017.
