Water Taxi Service Increased

City officials hope the subsidies will encourage people to take a boat to work and leave their cars at home.
Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn says it's a greener way to travel, with a nod to the past.
SADIK-KAHN: New York has really, it's been a maritime city and that's what its history has been. And now, finally, we are almost going back to the future and bringing back that maritime history to the shores of New York.
REPORTER: Starting next Monday, New York Water Taxi will run from Far Rockaway and the Brooklyn Army Terminal to Pier 11 in lower Manhattan.
Rides will be $6.
More East River routes are planned for this summer.
