Activists Protest Cuts to School Funding

NEW YORK, NY April 30, 2008 —A group of education activists, parents and elected officials rallied at City Hall to say they will fight the the city's plan to cut $500 million from school funding.
REPORTER: Helen Rosenthal, chairwoman of Manhattan's Community Board 7, says groups around the city are organizing to stop the cuts.
ROSENTHAL: From community boards, from community education councils from PTAS we're talking about hundreds of people, hundreds of parents who are concerned about their students, about their children....
REPORTER: Several council members, including Robert Jackson and Letitia James, say they will vote against the budget if the cuts are not restored. The Bloomberg administration has said the cuts are necessary because of the sagging economy.
