Workman Dies in Fall After Failure of Safety Strap
by Amy Eddings
NEW YORK, NY April 14, 2008 —An Upper East Side construction worker has died in a nine-story fall. Borough President Scott Stringer says the site has a history of safety violations.
Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster says it appears a nylon safety strap failed while the worker was installing windows at the apartment building, at East 67th near First Avenue. He apparently fell from the 23rd floor to a 14th floor balcony.
A failed nylon safety strap also figured prominently in the deadly crash of a Midtown crane last month.
