High Rents in New Jersey

by WNYC Newsroom

NEW YORK, NY April 14, 2008 —New Jersey is the fifth most expensive state for renters.

That's according to a new report out today from the Housing & Community Development Network of New Jersey which advocates for affordable housing.

The group finds that someone earning $16.45 an hour, which is a bit less than the state's average hourly wage, must work 54 hours a week to afford a two bedroom apartment at fair market rent.

The report comes out as Gov. Jon Corzine looks to cut property tax relief for tenants.
